What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are a safe and unique group of Ayurvedic herbs and medicinal mushrooms which are used to improve your adrenals and support your body’s hormonal response to stress. They help to fight fatigue, balance hormones, elevate your mood, cope with anxiety/depression, improve hair and skin health.

Do you have nutritional info for your healthy treats?

I don’t count calories and instead like to focus on the number of anti-inflammatory, non-GMO, nutrient dense ingredients in my food – you should too.

How did you get into healthy eating?

My passion for intuitive and mindful eating began when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2007. I went from having a bar of Snickers bar and a can of Coca-Cola for lunch to committing to a strict Paleo diet out of pure desperation to lower my inflammatory levels and increase my energy. I spent hours researching about the impact of gluten, dairy, eggs and refined sugar on the body.

What is Ulcerative Colitis?

Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes inflammation and ulceration of the inner lining of the rectum and colon (bowel) causing nausea, fatigue, rectal bleeding and diarrhoea when flared up.
There is no known cure for UC, although there are several ways to put the condition into remission; lifestyle, lowering stress levels, diet and alternative plant medicines.

Which is the most effective diet to follow?

My approach is listening to your body and following your gut, as long as you focusing on boosting natural energy, enhancing your mood, balancing your hormones and not promoting inflammation. I’ve tried and tested several diets; Paleo, Autoimmune Paleo Protocol, Pescatarian, SCD, GAPS, Cycle Syncing, Low Fodmap, Low Residue. The best diet is the one which works for your own body. I find a combination of Intermittent Fasting, Plantbased-focused, Gluten-free, Refined sugar-free and Ayurveda with juicing and adaptogens work best for my mind, body, gut and spirit and are do-able.

What is your favourite workout?

I focus on moving freely and intuitively. If it’s yoga my body is craving, I’ll book into a Vinyasa yoga class but if it’s a jog around the block that I’m feeling, I’ll pop my trainers on and head out. It’s usually a sweaty yoga flow and a reformer pilates class.

Do you meditate?

I love practising meditation at home using the Third Ear app which has a compilation of mantra, gong baths, breathing and mindfulness. Meditation comes in several forms, raw baking and crystal baths are my favourites.

What is your favourite crystal?

That’s like asking to choose your favourite child! If I had to choose one crystal, it would have to be clear quartz. Some may say it’s the ‘vanilla’ amongst other colourful, striking crystals but it was the first crystal that I really felt the effects from. It’s known as the master healer as it eliminates blockages and allows energy to flow through the body smoothly to gain a sense of clarity.

What’s the difference between Smudge sticks and Palo Santo?

My weekly cleansing regime consists of opening the windows at home, waving a lit Smudge stick in the air followed by Palo Santo.
Smudge sticks are made from sage leaves and is perfect for clearing energy, good and bad leaving a clear energy slate. It’s vital to fill the space with good energy, I like to use positive crystals and burn incense afterwards.
Palo Santo are holy wood sticks which are the fastest way to purify and fill the space with good energy, offering energetic protection.

Have you always been interested in Astrology?

Yes! My mum bought me a new Aries horoscope book every Christmas which I read daily. My love for astrology continued even when the books were discontinued and I began researching crystals, the art of manifesting and the effects that the moon has on us. These days, I love to incorporate some form of spiritual wellness into my day, whether that is Reiki, smudging, manifesting or listening to my favourite Spotify playlist to get my creative juices flowing.
